The AquaHacking Atlantic Canada Challenge is proud to announce that the top 5 finalists will participate in the Final Pitch Competition and the Awards Ceremony on June 16, 2023 at 1:30 (AT). These teams have been working tirelessly to develop innovative solutions to the challenges faced by the Atlantic Canada region when it comes to water quality and sustainability.

 

Since the beginning of March, as finalists, the teams unleashed their entrepreneurial spirit and talent to push their innovative solutions so they can be ready to pitch at the Final.

Here are the brief portraits of the teams before you can hear them pitch at the final event:

 

Meet the TOP 5 TEAMS

 

Team SenseH2O

Pranav Mahajan (Chief Technology Officer) & Gaurav Bhatia (Chief Operating Officer)

Pranav and Gaurav are from India. They are based in Halifax, NS and consider themselves as international students at SMU even though they have decades of professional experience behind them. Together they have founded SensH2O, a cloud-based platform that delivers real-time water quality data as a service to watershed organizations and open databases.

 

 

Team SU

Syfax Farez & Nadah Beny

Syfax and Nadah are young professionals, both recently graduated from Concordia University. Friends in life and coming from North Africa, they are based in Montreal, QC. Together they have founded SÙ to tackle the reduction of plastic waste issue with a reusable and biodegradable solution – a natural and reusable Reed Straw.

 

 

Team Kamino

Jonathan Brown, Michael Kerr, Kathleen Soodhoo & David Wager

Meet this multidisciplinary team that is also multigenerational and multijurisdictional. Led by Jonathan, team Kamino has members based in Ontario (Jonathan and Katheen) and New Brunswick (David and Michael). Together they have developed STEM-The-Tide. a low-cost technology solution for landscapers, contractors, and other professionals to use to determine potential green infrastructure benefits for an intended area.

 

 

Team TechStar Digital Labs

Kapil Sahni & Shubhra Singh

Kapil and Shubhra are from India. They met at SMU during their Master of Technology. They are both innovation enthusiasts and experienced entrepreneurs willing to have a significant impact. Together they have developed GREENHUT a DIY self-installation green roofing solution for households, providing a natural form of vegetation to reduce stormwater runoff from buildings.

 

 

Team Seacycle

Jack Poirier, Susan Maclnnis, Aneesa Hussain, Osama Nasser, David Campbell, Mary Henderson, Sherebanu Jariwala, Chinwedu Iwuji, Nathaniel Collier & Mareike Von Tiling

They are all students at Saint-Mary’s University. Coming with different backgrounds and skills, what makes them strong as a team, is that they are all part of Enactus SMU. Led by Jack, team Seacycle has developed an innovative water filtration system that filters out plastic waste ranging from water bottles to microplastics using a gravity filter while also providing automated water quality reports.
